  2. The issue is that a US ship will never go into battle against an enemy navy alone. The US doctrine still mostly focuses on fleets of ships (occasionally, a US ship will sail alone, but that's the exception,rather than the rule)

  5. That's not correct. Germany was the number 1 user of foreign weapons in WWII. They used huge numbers of captured weapons. By 1945, they were issuing Volkssturm rifles from before WWI. And even some Fallout 4 style weapons

  19. I'm glad to see some actual truth and criticism of the Leopard. Many people just think "Superior German Engineering" so it must be the best tank to ever grace the planet! When reality is not so. The Germans have also been less than honest about their tank. When the US conducted trials to see if they should adopt the Abrams or the Leopard, they found out the Germans had lied about the weight and armor thickness of the Leopard.

I don't think they have the equipment to arm more soldiers, which is why they avoid mass-mobilization. Russia has said they have something like 3,000-4,000 T-72 tanks, yet we're already witnessing them using T-62/T-64's. I think certain Russian cultural phenomenon like "Vranyo" is just too detrimental to them

  24. The US's isolated geography almost guarantees that no nation will invade the USA. Invading and conquering the US (physically half-a-world away from Africa, Asia and Europe) would provide no benefit for any nation. If nations want to attack the US to weaken it or cause fear, they have to cross an ocean from east or west. That means dealing with the US Navy and/or Air Force. It makes no sense for the US to have any substantial defenses in the 21st Century, This isn't 1812 anymore where the US is bordering an empire. The US spends most of its defense budget on aggressive weapons, its navy and air force, because 1) offense is better than defense and 2) the Navy and Air Force are the first line of defense for the USA.

The Armata T-14, the SU-57, the VPK-7829 Bumerang IFV still hasn't entered full-scale production. The list of brand new weapons and vehicles Russia has come out with is endless, but the amount that have begun mass production are miniscule.

  56. It's hard to define "Winning" because Russia has been very good at changing it's objectives and confusing the public. What does "denazify Ukraine" mean? At first that was the goal as well as "liberating the Donbas". But then Russia said it wasn't seeking regime change in Kyiv. Then a few weeks ago, I read a report that said that Putin wouldn't stop until there was regime change in Kyiv. Hell, Russia could end the war today and it's supporters would say they crushed Ukraine. Russians are like Americans, they'll never admit defeat, even when it's obvious to everyone else.

  71. I'm pretty sure artillery was the one thing Russia actually was better at in WWII. It was German tanks and combined arms that really taught Russia a lesson. Even in the Battle of Seelow Heights, as the Russians began their artillery bombardment, the Germans retreated to safety and then before the Russian infantry attacked, the Germans quickly advanced back into their old trenches. I believe that mass artillery was the one thing Russia knew that worked and coming out of WWII, they stuck to it. For the USA, it was Air Power. The USA and the UK went into WWII believing that Bombers would win the war. While the UK was discouraged, deciding to switch to night raids to avoid a horrendous loss of aircraft during the day, the USA pushed on, sustaining heavy losses.

  85. I believe the most likely cause of direct conflict between Russia and the USA today would either be in Ukraine or in the Arctic circle over the shipping lanes. I also think modern conflicts between conventional armies are becoming shorter and more direct. More accurate and fast weapons, are allowing militaries to be destroyed faster and more completely. The Armenian people did not surrender when Azerbaijani missiles and bombs hit houses. The Armenian military surrender when it was utterly destroyed and couldn't fight back. Azerbaijani drones and aircraft destroyed tanks and defenses. Yemeni anti-tank missiles destroyed million dollar Saudi Abrams tanks. Turkish militias with APC's, rocket launchers and drones defeated the Syrian Army multiple times. In turn, Kurds with anti-tank rockets destroyed Turkish Leopard 2 tanks. It's the ability to accurately and quickly destroy the enemies ability to fight that determine future wars, I think. That's what avoid nuclear warfare. Most countries aren't looking for long term occupation anyways. It's about geopolitics and influence.

  106. The Chieftain said that 40 Marders is about enough for a Mechanized Battalion and 50 Bradley's is about enough for a Mechanized Battalion. Depending on how many AMX-10RCs are sent, these could be enough for Ukraine to form a Mechanized Brigade. Now granted, each of these vehicles need a crew of 3 each, so 50 Bradley's is 150 crewmen at least that need to be trained, the Marders need 120 and the AMX-10RC could be, let's just guess and 90 crewmen that need to be trained. That's 300+ crew that need to be trained. That's not even touching on the 6-7 soldiers that the Marders and Bradley's can carry and need to familiarize themselves with operating in and around them. That would be about 540 soldiers that need training, by my estimate, plus 360 crewmen. Now you need to consider all the mechanics and officers and logistics personnel that need training. It could easily be 1,000 people and a lot of time that has to go into fielding so few vehicles. But once it's done, it'll give Ukraine a Mechanized Brigade to use as an armored fist.

  151. To me it sounds like the flip of a coin if a US carrier will be sunk. A lot will depend on the situation and tactics of both sides. Yes, the US can defend it's carriers. It spends lot of money and time trying too. But the Chinese have also put lots of money and time into making missiles that can sink carriers. There is also the chance that if a carrier is hit by a missile, it doesn't sink. So, we'll have to wait see

Not only can they launch their own missiles, but they can launch torpedoes. From what I've read, the US Navy just scrapped it's idea of towing torpedo nets around a carrier. They are still trying to figure out how to protect their carriers from torpedoes.

All those countries are mad at China because they see China as building island bases in their waters. Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia want these waters to fish in and explore for natural gas and oil. But their navies are weak compared to China's and China has much more political influence. This is the perfect opportunity for the USA to become friends with Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Taiwan and Malaysia because the USA has the powerful navy and influence to try to stop China in the SCS. When the Chinese government was called the Republic of China, the USA helped them. But the USA views the People's Republic of China as their ideological enemy and as the new Soviet Union. Likewise, China is helping the USA's enemies in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, Iran, Lebanon, in many African countries and in many Oceanic countries.
