Styxie, I quit drinking in 1988, stopped on a dime, no AA. I was 36 and had started drinking at 17 so half my life I'd used it as a coping mechanism/defense. While not a raving alcoholic, when I did drink I drank too much and alcohol was exacerbating my problems with depression which in turn was putting my life in the dumpster; whenever stress went up I fell into clinical depression.) Speaking of which it's likely you have Seasonal Affective Disorder. TIP: sublingual B12 drops eliminated mine. You do need a break for R & R. Jung called it 'Reculer pour mieux sauter'--step back to later better advance. Also, insomnia IS horrible...I have had that too. But wine is going to make it worse, so look into holistic remedies from dietary--cutting out caffeine and excess sugar, sedating blends of herbal tea--as well as progressive relaxation, upping daily exercise (NOT right before bed) and avoiding TV/Internet for several hours before you try to sleep.
