  1. FYI The adjective "красный" in old Russia was used in the sense of "прекрасный" (beautiful). In Russian these are homonyms. There is another assumption that Red Square was named so because the way to the Kremlin to the "Red Porch" of the complex of buildings of the Tsar's palace ran through it. But then again, the name "Red Porch" has nothing to do with the color red in Russian...
