  1. Not sure it's wise to infuse one's own cultural perspectives into foreign art. This painting with its bright lights looks rather cheerful to me even taking into context the uncertainy of another European war. I suppose I don't share the British sense of doom.

  2. The narrator’s interpretation of this artwork sounds eerily similar to Karl Marx’s description of social climbing. I don’t buy either of them. The true meaning of the painting is that the benefactor wanted to memorialize his cute little Brussels Griffon, placed bottom center the most prestigious spot in a painting. You can even see the dog’s chew marks on the wooden shoes. 😁

  3.  @GreatArtExplained  I did see that video and liked it. I think Bosch was probably a little bit tripping but I liked your assessment generally.

  4. The host says we shouldn't bring modern sensibilities to interpreting the artwork, but then that's exactly what he does.
