  1. The narrator’s interpretation of this artwork sounds eerily similar to Karl Marx’s description of social climbing. I don’t buy either of them. The true meaning of the painting is that the benefactor wanted to memorialize his cute little Brussels Griffon, placed bottom center the most prestigious spot in a painting. You can even see the dog’s chew marks on the wooden shoes. 😁
