Overblown
21
We don't.
9
No need, especially given the current economic climate with the push to EVs. Besides, making another straight-6 engine is expensive even for just one car.
4
@Beamsbright - nope, and you know it full stop.
3
Not quite, besides a rebadge would have meant a compromised driving dynamic (which the current Supra doesn't exactly show).
3
"but we all know the real supra engine is the 6 cylinder 2jz!!!" - while conveniently forgetting that Supras prior to the A70 don't even have a 1JZ.
3
Same can be said about the previous model comparing to the A70 back when it was new.
2
Afraid no. Besides this is not the 90's, regulations are already tighter than before.
2
@Beamsbright - nope, you know that.
2
@Beamsbright - dude, I'm not the denying here. You are.
2
Uh, you do know that someone else made the transmission for the A80, right?
2
For a new car, unfortunately no. Besides, other Supras before the A70 don't even have a JZ engine.
2
Power's fine as-is. Besides, the current car outsold the A80 model (double the number).
2
@jpnphom5470 - not quite. "it is slow to build up" - again, not quite. Besides, they are a little more focused on the handling department... something that a lot of car fans are forgetting to consider.
2
@jpnphom5470 - dude, we're talking about the Supra here, not the midsize sedans.
2
@UnionKane - not really "demonic" as you think.
2
Yet somehow, that "dumb" car did pretty well in motorsports. The 2019 Nurburgring N24 entry was even driven by former CEO and current chairman Akio Toyoda.
2
Except, you can't exactly bring back the JZ - especially in the age of electrification and tightening emissions.
2
@Kyoya_Senpai - except, that "there's a way" part isn't exactly ready for the part of "how many are willing to actually buy it", especially since not a lot of people have disposable incomes.
2
The same thing can be said about the A80 when it was compared to the A70 back when the former was sold new.
2
Not gonna happen in the age of tightening emissions and crash safety, I'm afraid.
2
The current Supra is a tad shorter yet wider than the A80 model. Besides, keep in mind that BMW didn't want to do much more with the Z4 after the previous generation until Toyota pitched the idea of co-developing both cars. If it's just a "tuned Z4", the driving wouldn't be the as the same as we have now.
1
Is this a joke comment?
1
@petermuniz9296 - wheel brand
1
Double the sales of the A80 in the U.S. actually.
1
"it is just nothing" - except, the current car has made its mark at the 2019 Nuburgring 24h with chairman Akio Toyoda at the wheel, has a GT4 variant, won championships in multiple disciplines, and has outsold the A80 in North America alone.
1
@Ibrahim Bashir - to be fair, the Mark 4 (A80) wasn't exactly flying off the shelves (besides Japan's faltering economy in the 90's). People even dismissed it until later thanks to popular culture.
1
While conveniently forgetting the other Supras before the A80 model.
1
@BornInArona - they why call the A80 model "the only Supra"?
1
@نعجظة - and yet, the sales of the A80 say otherwise.
1
It's less on the RTV, actually.
1
No. Besides, the original engine of the Supra isn't the JZ. It's the M series of engines.
1
@Beamsbright - dude, I suggest giving it a drive.
1
@Beamsbright - not false information. Besides, I'm starting to suspect you don't exactly know a lot.
1
@Beamsbright - dude, cut the act. I can tell.
1
@Beamsbright - nope, and you know that. Besides, your likes are sus. Not really natural to get that number in that short time, don't you think?
1
@Beamsbright - is it? Because the time it took to get to 5 likes seems off. Dude, come clean here.
1
@Beamsbright - dude, I don't beg for likes. Just doing a service for the car community. Meanwhile, the time it took for you to get 5 likes is, again, suspicious. You're not exactly doing any favors here and just proceed to chide people who were just pointing out some things the community seems to forget. Once again, cut the act.
1
@Beamsbright - dude, you think I sound like begging? Nope.
1
@Beamsbright - "dood, you are begging" - incorrect, and you know that.
1
@Beamsbright - yawn Don't play dumb, you know my comments aren't really "begging" here.
1
@Beamsbright - again, don't play dumb. Besides, I'm starting to suspect you knew that the BMW "unreliability" isn't exactly the case when proper maintenance is applied.
1
And people will still complain regardless. And less people will afford it.
1
Not gonna happen, I'm afraid. That engine requires a good amount of modifications just to get it emissions-compliant and hit the desired performance targets.
1
Not really. I suggest driving one on a technical race track and let the improved torque speak for itself.
1
Uh, the Supra didn't start out with the JZ (including the Celica-based models, it started out with the M engines and then followed with the G and aformentioned JZ ones).
1
Weight: Allow me to introduce myself.
1
@Sausage-u5g - so are the older Supras "not real Supras" just because they don't have the 2JZ, let alone the 1JZ?
1
@FrankHaul - not to be rude, but no. And you know that.
1
@Beamsbright - dude, look at yourself. You ain't fooling people here.
