@relentlesspursuit6894 - not quite. The current twins have the FA24 engine compared to the FA20 on the 1st-gen cars. And here's the thing: you're too damn drunk on horsepower, you fail to consider the other important bits of the car like the chassis and suspension (both of which can be tuned). And besides, what other cars beside the twins and the Miata have rear-wheel drive, natural aspiration, lightweight bodies, and capable chassis at the same price point in the era of the growing EV craze?

@relentlesspursuit6894 - not quite. On the other hand, where exactly do you get to enjoy most of the high horsepower legally outside of a race track or an Autobahn?
8
Not quite when put in a track.
4
And that BMW isn't exactly better on the corners than an 86.
3
And lighter than a 530d.
2
Not really about speed. The car is designed for conering and spirited fun.
2
More like 50/50.
2
Except, not exactly the case.
2
Something tells us you haven't driven the car as it intended the driver to do.
2
@Sturmovik1946 - except, that's not exactly the whole story.
1
@fry.master - again, not quite the whole story.
1
@fry.master - "Tweaking things by .5grams here and there by eccentrics means NOTHING. Rip that stock shifter out and put in a real chassis mount if you want an engaging experience, not that halfass toyota “tweaking”" - not quite. As savagegeese puts it during his first review of the Supra: using a mass-produced, existing platform for a sports car come with trade-offs. Even though the platform used by both the current Supra and Z4 features elements of BMW's CLAR, it's a dedicated, more purpose-built one.
1
Which isn't exactly slow once you know what the car is capable of.
1
"Nissan made the newer model GTR a v6." - and yet, initial reviews for the R35 GT-R was closer to criticism and uproar... until the tuning potential of the VR38 finally shut them up.
1
@maguslloretmunoz2354 - you gotta do some track days. There are a lot of factors that favor the GR86 over whatever BMW your grandma drives.
1
"They could use the V6 from the Camry but tuned..." - except, Toyota specifically requested a straight-6. Not much else beside the 4-pot for countries that have displacement tax. "also no way this would make 1000hps that easy like the 2JZ" - keep in mind that the JZ was developed at time that emissions regulations were a bit more relaxed compared to now. The B58, in contrast, had to make do with the regs in place - and considering the number of high-horsepower builds that popped up, it's still pretty remarkable that it got to the 1000 hp mark somewhat quickly.
1
Dynos reported 250 horsepower for the 2nd gen cars. That should be enough for a car designed for spirited driving and taking turns old-school style.
1
@Jannajx5 - you don't need that much horsepower. Besides, where exactly are you going to enjoy most of it outside of a race track or Autobahn?
1
@Jannajx5 - dude, you just told a lot of people your intention while potentially inviting the 5-0 to give you a ticket. EDIT: or worse, jailtime.
1
@Jannajx5 - so be a buffoon, then pay multiple fines and suffer a license suspension before regretting what you wrote and did. You better off backing out of this and just enjoy the car as-is, safely and legally. EDIT: Or worse, a revoking of your license.
1
@kordaxmint533 - what they're suggesting is you need to take a drive on the twins when you get the chance.
1
Still faster than paint drying.
1
Not exactly slow once you know how to drive the twins properly.
1
Power is fine for what the twins is designed to do. Besides, they addressed the torque dip that plagued the 1st-gen cars.
1
@tommasov10 - I would suggest focusing less on the interior. GR86 is supposed to be a budget sportscar, so Subaru and Toyota focused on the important things.
1
@tommasov10 - seriously, do you wish to drive or stare too much on the interior? A fancier interior doesn't exactly help.
1
@tommasov10 - however, when driving, most of our vision is focused on the road and less on the materials. The twins' interiors is designed to be like that because some of the owners do track days or actually love driving on the weekends and other times where free time allows. It helps that the alcantara reduces glares. Believe me, I've driven a few modded econoboxes and a Vita1 kit car on the track.
1
The van won't be able to handle as well as the GR86.
