The 86 is not supposed to focus on luxury.
3
Curb weight for the 2023 Premium and in manual is 2833 lbs, enough to zip past the corners. This isn't a car for straight-line speeds.
3
That's the problem: WRX is AWD, BRZ is RWD. And RWD offers an experience AWD usually does not. Besides, the BRZ is naturally aspirated for a more linear power delivery.
3
No. It's made in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr (same with the Z4).
2
@nicks1137 - here's a question: how many Mark 4 Supras were sold on the N. American market?
2
Starting MSRP for a GR86 Premium is $30,300. Also, please specifiy which generation and model of the BMW 3 Series.
2
Uh, both Subaru and Toyota developed basically the same car (with some very subtle mechanical differences).
1
A lot of legendary cars were based on econoboxes, to be fair.
1
@nicks1137 "if Toyota would have kept making them..." And here lies the problem: this was the time when the Japanese economy in the 90's was on a downward spiral, aside from ever-tightening emissions and crash standards, and some dismissal by the public. Simply suggesting that Toyota should continue making it would be an understatement. Before calling Toyota lazy-asses, do your research. They understandably went to BMW for a reason. We don't want to make the same mistake, do we? Edit: Before I forget, you can also thank the 2008 financial crisis and RND for strangling Toyota's efforts for sports cars even further.
1
And a heavier and not-so-dynamic car. Besides, the twins offer the benefit of a more linear power delivery from the naturally-aspirated boxer-4.
1
Except, reusing the 2JZ isn't exactly straightforward: you need to do some extensive re-engineering for it to meet emissions and performance requirements. Not to mention that its block is made of iron. Finally the JZ was used on a multitude of Toyota cars, not just the Supra. It get expensive just to use it only for one car.
1
They specifically requested a straight-6 engine. Can't exactly use the JZ as that would require modifications from the factory to be emissions-compliant. Besides, it's an iron-block. That would take time and money to develop for today's auto environment.
1
Not supposed to be luxurious anyway.
1
@aryanxrestha3356 - listen, just forget about the interior. The most important thing is the driving; eyes will be on the road most of the time anyway.
1
@scottlee38 - except not quite.
1
@scottlee38 - a Tahoe is obviously heavy. Besides, not really as agile as a Supra.
1
Nope. For 6-cylinder models, US$51,890 MSRP for a base 3.0 vs US$63,700 for a Z4 M40i.
1
Bespoke means more expensive and more weight, something that the twins are never designed for a relatively cheap sports car that emphasizes handling and driving dynamics over power.
1
@jonasbaine3538 - but does the car call for that? Not really. With the torque dip from the 1st gen all but solved, this is a big improvement in drivability. Edit: Yeah, I stand corrected for the engine, but still...
1
Keep it NA. Besides, isn't the BMW heavier at 3,300 lbs.?
1
@saskwotch19764 - you see, not everyone prefers a turbo. Fuel economy issues aside, in a world where turbocharging is all the norm and EV on the way to replace it, current NA engines are becoming unicorns of a sort.
1
No.
1
Not everyone is interested in a Mustang.
1
Yeah, don't be fooled by the horsepower numbers. Dyno numbers reported higher ratings.
1
Actually faster.
1
Incorrect.
1
@CyberBytePro - what if I tell you that the BRZ is the more "rebadged" of the twins? It wasn't their idea to make a RWD car, it's Toyota's.
1
Not quite.
1
@koaladoeseverything - look at videos of Toyota G16s. They are known to be beasts outside of Koenigsegg's TFG.
