@cj09beira - Try driving an A80 (Mk. IV) in pure stock form.

@cj09beira - hold your horses. The weight of the Supra Turbo weighed around 3,417 lbs. The new one will be around 3300. Also, Toyota stopped their collaboration with BMW in 2014.

Too expensive. Plus, you need more car models to accept the engine, just like the 2JZ, in order to lower costs.
2
Upon closer inspection, the Supra features design elements from their famous 2000GT. Look at the side windows - it's quite apparent. Not exactly the Z4 (unless you are referring to the older models). As for the 4-cylinder, yes it has but you can only get it in Japan.
2
@cj09beira - doesn't need to.
2
Try savagegeese's take on the Supra. He even did a Q&A on the car.
2
@izzdin6228 - already did :) EDIT: Except for the Q&A part. I need to dig a little deeper.

Really? This interview would like to suggest Tada-san knows more than virtually all of us here. http://blog.toyota.co.uk/new-toyota-supra-interview-with-chief-engineer-tetsuya-tada

Reworking a 2JZ for today's times is expensive.
1
You don't know what the Supra is really about. Do some research, will ya?
1
@remybrunson6204 - the car was originally supposed to be competing against the Nissan (Datsun) Z car back in the day. It was more on the luxury side until the 80s. That's what I've said before: do some research.
1
@remybrunson6204 - not supposed to be up against the GT-R
1
@remybrunson6204 - there is one thing missing. The rest of the world, barring some counties, don't even have the Skyline GT-R.
1
@remybrunson6204 - SKYLINE GT-R. Don't mix up.
1
@adamcz3183 - not exactly. We'll have to focus on the base models, not the Turbo ones.
1
Apples and oranges, bud. Some of us prefer to stick to the ICEs a little longer because of the noise it makes (assuming that it sounds as melodic as music itself).
1
Not exactly. It's called joint development.
1
The Supra was once part of the Celica for the first few generations.
1
Too early to tell
1
The Supra was never intended to be a GT-R rival to begin with.
1
Too expensive.
1
Regulations and costs.
1
On the third point, Toyota co-developed the chassis, extensively checked the engine for weaknesses then tell BMW where to fix, and created a car with more emphasis on track performance rather than the Z4's luxury feel.
1
You need to check the specs of the BMW B58. There's clearly a turbo there.
1
The Supra was never designed to compete with the GT-R, only the Z range.
1
It wasn't supposed to be competing with the GT-R, only the Z car.
1
How is it a disrespect? It keeps the straight-6, almost keeps the same dimensions (bit shorter than the Mark IV, but is also a bit wider), keeps the rear-wheel drive.
1
You mean: Except make the badge, co-develop the chassis, extensively check the engine and tell BMW to fix any shortcomings that pop up, create a car with more track credibility than a Z4, and receive updates through racing - even with imput from CEO Akio Toyoda himself. And I don't see BMW racing with their Z4...
