One thing to consider is that the Toyota car requires a straight-6 engine. A 2JZ wouldn't exactly cut it since you need to rework it for modern regulations. Plus, the engine is quite heavy. EDIT: For some reason, the Japanese have a straight-4 option for now. But hey, the famous Castrol Tom's Supra race car has that engine configuration, not the 2JZ.

Toyota wanted a straight-6, and not much else (there is the straight-4 version, but it's currently offered for Japan only).

@SiamHossain7 - question is: are people buying sports cars? The popping of the Japanese asset price bubble in 1992 and the Financial Crisis of the late 2000s hurt both manufacturers (Toyota and others) and consumers quite badly. As for why Toyota is using parts from other sources, considering that the Supra and BMW Z4 share most parts and their production by Magna Steyr, you could thank the Toyota Production System for that. They don't want to waste as much resources and time as possible.
