"5th gen fails because they didn't stay true to 4th gen aethetics" - here's an irony here: the A80 also failed because it didn't "retain" some the aesthetics of the preceeding A70 model. Right now, the J29 model is in a similar situation, though it's actually doing much better with it.

"Too bad the 4th gen supra was built literally for racing and to beat Nissan" - until the 2JZ was discovered to be unsuitable for the track, they ditched it in favor of the 503E 4-pot (that's for the JGTC).
2
"Toyota introduced the mark 5 as a cash grab." - not quite. "...they basically imported the entire car from BMW." - not quite, also. BMW doesn't even want to do much with the car even after release. Besides, if Toyota "imported" the Z4, the driving would have been different.

Never was meant to be a Supra.

@kennethcampingdiary1976 - let's see, from available sources: - BMW and Toyota have been cooperating long before the Supra. The former got the hydrogen tech, and the latter got their diesel engines. - BMW wasn't planning on another Z4 generation after the E89 model, but Toyota proposed building both the Z4 and Supra on the more purpose-built, CLAR-based platform and architecture. This is the important kicker.
2
@Go2scout - not fully deduced, I'm honestly afraid. Besides, BMW wasn't even supposed to be building the current Z4 until Toyota came along. Besides, if the car's "a Z4 with a body kit", the driving would have been compromised.
2
"this is a BMW rebadge by toyota" - this statement honestly misses a lot of things. One of which is that, a rebadged car would have a compromised driving dynamic.
2
"The 4th Generation was a beautiful, unique car." - not quite.
2
@WesleyChe - not quite, and sales for the A80 in the U.S. alone tell a lot.
2
"The disrespect is real I've been with supra's my whole life so mk5 it's cheeks a Lil." - not to be rude, but the funny thing here is that the A80 was also disrespected back when it was new (I mean, the sales for it in N. America alone was barely above 11,000 units - way less than the preceeding A70). This is the same thing the current Supra is facing right now, though it has a much better time weathering through it.
2
"Just beautiful and for good reason." - except, this wasn't exactly the case back when it was sold new.
2
Not gonna happen, I'm afraid. Especially given that emissions regulations are tighter compared to the 90's.
1
Not quite, especially given the sales figures of the A80.
1
"The new supra just a rebranded bmw z4" - which, to be fair, misses a few things. A full-on rebadge would have meant a compromised driving dynamic.
1
Not all of Mazda's rotary-powered cars have the 'RX' moniker (the most notable is the Cosmo).
1
The Mk.V defied the rule, from what I'm seeing since the car's release.
1
"Toyota rebadging a Krautwagon" - which isn't exactly the case given how the current Supra drives. It would have been different had the car be actually based on the old BMW platform (which they weren't planning to use for the Z4 given poor sales of the last generation).
1
"the new supra is a digrace to all car fans" - the sales of the A80 say otherwise, I'm afraid.

The current Supra still has the B58 straight-6 and the B48 straight-4. The only mechanical changes for the former depend on the market (EU-spec and some markets retain the engine from 2019).
