RX is strictly for cars with rotary engines. A straight-6 engine excludes it.
1
I mean, the previous generation has a Type S (which was exclusive to Japan) and the Type S-Zero. The closest for outside Japan is the Alex Zanardi edition NSX.
1
Not quite.
1
@avdp9095 - not quite. I mean, there's also the GR GT3 Concept that's going to be run under the Lexus badge.
1
"Toyota is just killing its bread and butter" Not really, the Corolla remains their bread and butter.
1
The hypothetical specs shown here suggest that the car wouldn't be classified as a kei car.
1
@SebastianBlix - one thing to differentiate a kei from a normal car is the displacement. It should be within 660cc, and since the hypothetical displacement for the car exceeds that, then it ain't a kei car. For dimensions, kei cars should be within 3.4 meters in length, 1.48 meters in width, and 2 meters in height. EDIT: And when Kirk began to look into the dimensions from 4:35, it pretty much exceeds the dimensions limit of a kei car.
1
Let me ask: why did the now-former CEO Toyoda say, "no more boring cars"?
1
GT3 doesn't permit hybrid.
1
@naveenthemachine - "I'd ignore Toyota for a while." I wouldn't suggest doing that for a long while. There's still the GR GT3 concept car (or whatever name the production version would take) looming on the horizon. I mean, why did Rookie Racing (the team that Akio have driving sessions with) decide to make use of a Mercedes-AMG GT3?
1
"It was defeated by vehicles that were half of its value" - and yet, look at where the LFA stands nowadays. It's already creeping closer to millions of dollars in resale value.
1
Not quite.
1
Almost every manufacturer does that, not just Toyota.
1
Short answer: no. BMW doesn't want to do much with it at all even before development of the car and the Supra began. Besides, if it's a rebadged Z4, the driving dynamics would have been very different compared to the car we have right now.
1
We're gonna have to wait for the camo to come off and (conservatively) its official reveal.
1
We would probably see an NSX situation where the car is badged as a Lexus in North America and a Toyota everywhere else.
1
Mark 4 (A80) Supra doesn't look like the preceeding Mark 3 (A70), to be fair.
1
"starting to think toyota forgot how to design an engine" - they can. The main problem here is if we can afford it even if the car's expensive.
1
Not quite.
1
"worst thing toyota is done is co developing with bmw toyota had the best inline 6 engine" - not quite. Besides, the sales of the peceeding car in the U.S. tell a lot (it wasn't exactly a hit). Another thing to point out is that the 2JZ may not exactly be the best today. You need to reengineer it for current emissions and desired performance targets, which will take some hefty resources to do. And consider that it gets expensive, especially producing it just for one car. "but now its got a shitty bmw engine" - which isn't exactly the case once you give it the proper maintenance, like every other car. "plus auto" - the manual for all 3.0 models has been on sale since 2022. "plus making it super duper ugly" - that's funny, the same could be said for the A80 back when it was sold new. It was criticized for deviating a lot from the preceeding A70 model.
1
The Supra specifically asked for a straight-6 engine. Even the 2JZ had to be put elsewhere to recoup some of the costs.
1
@T800-b2m - two problems, AFAIK: 1.) Toyota did a survey asking which engine should the Supra use. The straight-6 got the majority of the votes, so they have to deliver on that. 2.) Their platforms at the time of development weren't exactly up to the task. At least from this source (https://www.goauto.com.au/news/toyota/supra/bmw-made-new-toyota-supra-possible-tada/2019-09-04/79871.html).
1
Nope
1
@jpnphom5470 - except an Aventador didn't exactly race in any competition AFAIK, compared to the Murcielago or the LFA. And speaking of the LFA, that car was tested more extensively on the Nurburgring. By thinking about the looks and calling them 'weak', your friend underestimated and failed to appreciate the cars' history, particularly in their participation in motorsports: the Supra just won the DTM Trophy last year and won Formula D two times, and the car was even driven by the then-CEO of Toyota himself during the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring to 3rd in-class. Honda (in its GT500 silhouette spec) won the 2018 Super GT championship with F1 champion Jenson Button being one of the two drivers behind the wheel, and the more recent championship win would be by Racers Edge in the GT World Challenge America Pro-Am class. As for the old anime, honestly you are also underestimating them.
1
Not quite. Besides, the Supra's manual is made by ZF.
1
@samuelforsyth6374 - except Toyota's "Z4" has done a lot more than at first glance (ran at the Nurburgring, won the DTM Trophy, won Formula D).
1
Global. They already showed the GR GT3 Concept in North America with a Lexus badge.
1
@Yueymosthated - not quite simple. There's also the part that BMW continues to make inline-6 engines for quite a long while compared to Mazda. Not to mention that they have a tech-sharing relationship with Toyota not long before the current Supra came.
1
Dude, the render's not even official. Just focusing on the "lack of edginess" and ignoring the potential performace is frankly a bad idea.
1
A lot of what you said is mostly false... and lacks contexts.
1
"I will never ever forgive what toyota did to the supra😡" - the fans weren't exactly innocent either given that the A80 model sold poorly in the U.S. alone. Not only that, the A80's looks was also criticized back when it was fresh from the factory. To put it plainly, you're repeating the very mistake that doomed the A80 sales-wise.
1
Not exactly gonna work.
1
Far too late to can the project.
1
Hate to break it, but GT3 race cars are purely ICE. What you heard in the video showing the car running was the transmission.
1
As GT3 regs don't allow hybrids or electric ATM, nope.
1
And how much are the NSXs again?
1
@DiroPhoenixFan - so, you just destroyed your own argument against the Toyota?
1
@naveenthemachine - something tells us you haven't seen the rest of what Toyota is currently planning cough GR GT3 cough
1
@naveenthemachine - then, can you explain why Rookie Racing (which now-former CEO Akio ran races with) decided to run an AMG GT3 for this year's Super Taikyu season? Does it ring a bell? Toyota is more than capable of making their own sportscars. One of the main issues is how many people are willing to fork the cash needed to get the car once the manufacturer prices it accordingly to recoup the costs of RnD.
1
This applies to pretty much all manufacturers, not just Toyota.
1
@alexnutcasio936 - rule of thumb: don't brag about quarter-mile times. There's more to a sports car than that.
1
Toyota's GR GT3 road car would fill in that role quite nicely.
1
GT3 don't permit hybrid or electric.
1
"That Lexus/Toyota LFR or GR GT3 it gonna be canceled because Toyota are lazy" - nope. Besides, GT3 regulations require them to build road-going examples in order to get their car qualified. "seriously if Supra was 100% Toyota engine build by GR it gonna sell well but it's bmw." - not quite. Besides, sales of the A80 model in the U.S. say otherwise. "Toyota, you can't make inline 6 engine WTF you guys can use that engine in Suvs and Lexus IS I lost my hope in Lexus/Toyota after they canceled LC F." - let's be honest: where exactly does a Toyota need a straight-6 engine? Their existing platforms aren't exactly designed to fit 'em. At the very least, let's enjoy what we have before electrification kicks into high-gear.
1
I disagree, Toyota is making the most of the limited time with ICEs.
1
@redman112010 - yeah, not quite. Toyota didn't just take a platform and call it a day.
1
@redman112010 - except those two are hindered by weight. Supra's lighter in comparison.
1
@spaceoner1 - I wouldn't suggest saying, "they should use X..." If Toyota asks for a straight-6, they'll get a straight-6. Besides, do you know about the advantages and disadvantages of the straight-6 and V6 configurations?
1
The 2nd-gen GT300 BRZ has been racing since '21 (with even an outright championship win in the debut season). Edit: Besides, the BRZ came from last season (which Nissan won, BTW).
1
"Supra with a bmw engine is not a supra" - on the bright side, it's a straight-6 engine like the JZ. While it's true that BMW has made some bad engines, their straight-6s aren't exactly to be laughed at. Besides, they can be actually reliable with the proper maintenance. "re engineer the 2jz" - too expensive and not exactly worthwhile to reengineer in this day and age - especially for just one car. Besides, the sales of the A80 model in the U.S. say otherwise.
