  1. The Supra specifically asked for a straight-6 engine. Even the 2JZ had to be put elsewhere to recoup some of the costs.

  2.  @T800-b2m  - two problems, AFAIK: 1.) Toyota did a survey asking which engine should the Supra use. The straight-6 got the majority of the votes, so they have to deliver on that. 2.) Their platforms at the time of development weren't exactly up to the task.
