@Al-mx6ru - yeah, sales numbers don't tell the whole story.

@Al-mx6ru - where did you get the idea that Toyota was expecting 20k sales? Just an honest question. Anyway, Toyota when developing the Mark V were more conservative. The Mark 4 didn't exactly sell well due to ever-tightening regulations, and that was in the time period that Japan's economy was going down following the popping of the bubble in the 90's (they call this part the "Lost Decade"). In the Mark 5's case, it was (and still is) not only facing the emissions regulations. but also the (slow) increasing proliferation of electric cars. Then we have to remember that developing a car always costs a lot of money (RnD, training, and assigning and/or building a factory to build the car and/or the necessary components). We also have to remember that the pandemic was something almost everyone (even Toyota) didn't expect to happen. But here we are in the sales figures (at least in the US): the Mark V Supra surpassed the previous one.

@Al-mx6ru - that's why I mentioned "more conservative". That's the keyword. And to be frank, I'm suspecting that a lot of your comments lack context.

@Al-mx6ru - yeah, not quite. Again, sales don't tell the whole story, especially given the differing situations the different generations experienced.
