Yeah, this section is shady AF.

@MKDC-5 - not quite. Besides, Subaru initially didn't want themselves in the project until Toyota bought some of Fuji Heavy Industries' shares.

It's actually 380 Stateside.
1
Nope.
1
Not really.
1
And how heavy are the sedans and SUVs?
1
What about in a corner? Can a RAV4 do that?
1
@TroutFink - so, not quite? I did a bit of checking. An LE trim with AWD has 3,510 lb. curb weight vs. 2811 lb. for a base 2023 GR86. That's quite a lot of extra weight for the RAV4 to carry through a corner.
1
Not quite.

I suggest looking at the Toyota 2000GT and compare it to the Supra.
1
@UnoB8938 - honesty, your opinion is very, very, very stupid. We're buying an 86 for the purpose of a purer, lightweight rear-wheel drive enjoyment with the chassis to match and at a price where people have better chances to buy (at least in America). Does the Mazda3 have any of that? I suggest doing laps on a local track as well. Power isn't everything.
1
@UnoB8938 - you're comparing a more premium econo hatchback to a more dedicated sports car that is more affordable and accessible to the masses, apples-to-oranges. Of course, it's wrong.
1
@UnoB8938 - again, apples-to-oranges. Besides, what other manufacturer besides Toyota and Mazda make a budget sports car that the average Joe has better chances to be introduced to sports car driving? Before I forget, most of the Mazda3 trims exceed 3,000 lbs. in terms of weight. The 86/BRZ weighs just above 2,800 lbs.

Until there is a corner up ahead.
1
Not exactly. He let off the gas.
1
@tone3560 - no, seriously. Look and listen at 13:02.
1
Not really.
1
Okay, let's see. If that's the case, explain how: - they won last year's Super GT season despite Honda having aguably a better car? - the GR Supra scored 3rd in class at the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring, arguably among the toughest endurance events? - won the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
1
@Transit_my-way - okay, I understand lol
1
Not exactly. This gen fixed the torque dip (the actual problem of the first-gen car). Now it can pull away from heavy family sedans at the corners.
1
"Laughs in Caterham" Some of their cars have less horsepower than the GR86, yet they still perform well.
1
Mazda's doing fine with their MX-5. Even Britain's renowned Caterham is kicking butt way below 300hp with their lightweight bodies (same can be said for some of their models with less than 200hp).
1
Do not ask for more luxury. This is a (relatively) budget-minded sports car.
1
Is it really a con considering that the manga has been around for quite a while? Wouldn't be surprised if the anime follows what Initial D's did and introduce the newer model later down the road.
1
Not really, if you know what you are doing and what the car is designed to do.
1
Not actually Subaru's idea to build a RWD car (that's Toyota's). Plus, they initially did not express interest in developing the car.
1
Doesn't need that much horsepower considering the weight and CoG.
1
Mazda's FC RX-7 would like a word.
1
And how heavy is that Camry?
1
@seawolf_USA - 0-60 won't mean much when there is a tight turn.
