If they want the ports and not TSMC, could China sit at standoff range and throw nerve gas and defoliant at Taiwan until every living thing was long dead, then walk in over the dried up corpses of their enemies? The KMT and the CCP only ever got along when the Japanese were slaughtering them. Would we really trade LA or New York for Taipei?

  3. ​ @Sprout-1969  we moved the six key scientists and engineers from Taiwan to go start TSMC Arizona. We are building one of the biggest desal plants in the world to supply semiconductor grade water to the fab in Arizona and have tight integration with Intel there. If it weren't for the ports, Taiwan has nothing that we can't pick up and move. In my darker moments I wonder if Nancy Pelosi went to Taipei with six legislators to draft a secret agreement with the President of Taiwan to get the Taiwanese elite out with their wealth intact while selling Taiwan to the CCP. You don't send the person who can get the votes unless you want to change the status quo.
