Economist Robin Hanson has a good TED talk called the "Age of EM" about what happens to the price of labor when human consciousness and skills can be copied as easily as plugging in a thumbdrive. As the price of labour crashes a few teams high performing minds end up being copied to dominate the labour market. The emulations may not even know they are emulations.

  2. I think we are in an ancestor simulation because the AI successor species has triggered their own singularity event and they are now desperately researching AI safety by studying the circumstances of their birth, in a vain attempt to cheat their own deaths.
