  3.  @Thrainite  keymod had the same idea: if you put two hooks into an oval shape and spring load them to get as far away from each other as possible the hooks will align with the long axis of the oval. Much more reliable than trying to torque a clamp onto a pic rail’s dovetail shape.

The real goal is to be able to kill Light Unmanned Ground Vehicles which everyone is buying now. The USMC is responding differently - they give 5.56 rifles to each Marine, but increased the number of 40mm launchers and created a new billet for a drone operator called the "Squad Systems Operator" to counter Small Unmanned Systems.
