  1.  @Thrainite  keymod had the same idea: if you put two hooks into an oval shape and spring load them to get as far away from each other as possible the hooks will align with the long axis of the oval. Much more reliable than trying to torque a clamp onto a pic rail’s dovetail shape.

  3. The little ovals did the same thing that Keymod did but it did it in plastic rather than laser cut metal.

  4.  @anotherbacklog  if the XM8 got adopted as the M8 a great fortune would be made making adaptors to attach rails to the hk proprietary ovals.
