I guess that if trench warfare broke out they'd just issue armor piercing steel core 9mm and requalify everyone on these submachine guns initially adopted for VIP and close asset protection. And NATO has standardized the 5.7mm somewhere, but that cartridge won't kill a Light Unmanned Ground Vehicle with any decent armor package.

  2. 2:44 I think you are right the "anti-body armor" concept and "mountain top to mountain top" concepts are cover stories. The real goal is to be able to kill Light Unmanned Ground Vehicles which everyone is buying now. The USMC is responding differently - they give 5.56 rifles to each Marine, but increased the number of 40mm launchers and created a new billet for a drone operator called the "Squad Systems Operator" to counter Small Unmanned Systems.
