In response the Ottoman Empire disbanded the Janissaries, and folded them into the Ottoman Army, ruining their esprit de corps and destroying their effectiveness. The result was a terrible performance in the crimean war and ww1 and the breakup of the Ottoman Empire under the Sykes Picot act resulting in the middle east of today.
