@antistupid4712 thorium has no decay pathway to materials for thermonuclear weapons. Japan is interested in thorium to make hydrogen gas without relying on petrochemical inputs in their "Red Hydrogen" plan. Everyone else wants plutonium from uranium.

@ieuanhunt552 it continues to this day. Remember a little while ago when the DOE funded National Ignition Facility announced that they got more energy out of a duterium fuel pellet than they put in to make it achieve fusion? Consider for a moment that our most powerful weapons use thousands of those duterium fuel pellets in their second stage and until now we didn't know how to make them work efficiently.
