Indias freedom in managing its foreign interests is not backed by russians americans or any other self proclaimed superpower. It is backed by good diplomacy, a nuclear triad and peaceful nuclear weapons capable of bringing on nuclear winter if the existence of India is ever seriously threatened by anyone...

@damocles8417 american interest was to encourage american arms sales in europe by letting the ukrainian conflict simmer. Indian interests was to ensure cheap energy to Indians given the fact that the traditional buyers of russian energy in europe were now outbidding India in the middle eastern oil markets. If america cared so much about ukraine and the effectiveness of sanctions against russia, they could have lifted sanctions on nations like venezuela and iran to facilitate alternate sources of energy to europe, thereby keeping oil prices low globally and further weakening sanctions. But in reality, american policy itself is short sighted and cares about its own self interests than the interests of its european allies. Usa doesnt care if inflation in europe goes through the roof causing europe to buy russian energy after it is refined in India. All usa cares about us to create a environment for arms sales after their exit from afghanistan...

The amount of tech the israelis can offer India - from defence sector to agriculture and water management - far outweighs any short term benefits iranian energy could offer. And this guy calls Indian govt short sighted. As for venezuela, how do you expect energy to come from the eastern side of south america to India? The panama canal is part of the sanctions and logistical cost would make such a venture extremely unprofitable...
