Comments by "Stephen Jon" (@stephenjon3502) on "Mick Lynch defends RMT deputy living in council flat on £78k" video.
Nothing wrong with living in a council house, just a shame that thanks to the tories 91% of them have been sold off for massive profits hence why most of the children who grew up in areas of London that the toffs never even thought of looking at will never be able to afford to live there.

@paolo7688 He saw it in the Sun.

@LAJZful He probably moved into that place years ago before he was selected for a top job in the RMT. So by your reckoning that if you're fortunate enough to get a better job with better wages then you should leave your home? Maybe if the Milk snatcher hadn't given people the opportunity to purchase council stock at vastly reduced rates then we might just have enough to go around and private rents would be brought into line. As for socialism, be it the champagne or any other kind it seemed to work for nearly 12million to sit in their gardens for best part of a year and now the rest of us have to pay for it. Always when it suits eh?
4
"Who is super rich?" Maybe presenters who earn 6 grand a show and only work 3 hours a day and live in a multimillion pound home in London.....
4
@colly8143 So by your reckoning an MP earns 350k a year then?
3
@boywonder6659 It was done to make people more reluctant to go on strike as they would lose their homes for not paying the mortgage. 91% of council stock was sold off - hence the problems we have today. Look at Germany with 75% of people renting affordable homes that gives them much more disposable income and to have a nice life rather than just go to work to pay bills.
2
@MrTobycheese Right to buy was brought in under the 1980 Housing act 1 year after The milk snatcher got into power but you can blame labour if it makes you feel better.
2
Is that the Daily Express 80k, The Sun 80k, or The Mail 80k Hugh?
2
Then sold them all off. 91% to be exact. The main reason our kids have to pay extortionate rents these days.
1
@Lonsome1223 That comments a bit hypocritical when you've bought a property at a vastly reduced rate and now sit quids in all the while complaining of someone who earns more than you because his job warrants it and pays rent? You say you bought the property not to be a burden on the state,so if you ever sell it will you give the profits back to the council ? Of course you won't! Are you one of those numpties that complain about socialists yet sat at home on furlough as well? I'm alright JACK....
1
@Lonsome1223 Well fella let's have a pick thru of your reply. 1. I've worked on the railway for 33 years of my 37 years since leaving school claiming absolutely nothing whilst for the last 10 years part of my salary was taxed at 40%. I bet I've paid more in N.I. contributions than you have in tax fella. ( when I left my job £498 a month alone ) 2. You have moaned about someone living in a council house when you've taken one of those off the market. So no you haven't freed up anything for anyone, you've just made a massive profit for yourself when social housing should have never been sold off in the first place. One reason our children will be very unlikely to afford to live in London an area I was born and raised in. 3. Everyone at some point in their life has probably had to struggle thru a rough patch. You sound like my brother in law, constantly going on about having no money yet like you he bought his council flat with a massive discount and now being worth just shy of a million quid. A single bloke living in a 3 bed flat which could have been used for a family. Keep telling yourself you have done people a favour because your haven't. Your greed has ruined it for the future generations. 🍩
1
@lynnevenables7193 Yes Lynne. It seems like Jeffery thinks he's done the taxpayer a massive favour. In fact it's the opposite. Then moans about someone on 78k who pays a shedload more tax than he has ever done and thinks that person isn't entitled to live in a council property. You couldn't make it up.
1
@Lonsome1223 No Jeffrey, what you don't seem to understand is that the government sold off 91% of social housing stock on the cheap AND NOW THERE'S HARDLY ANY LEFT. Keep telling yourself you have done everyone a favour because you haven't. All my kids have to pay extortionate rents thanks to the likes of you sitting pretty on massive profits. You then have the cheek to moan about a 40% tax payer ( in the case of the union assistant leader ) who's paying far more into the system than you have ever done. Delusional.
1
@stephenomara1109 That's the problem. The rail companies are ripping up and changing terms and conditions that have been in place for years. One reason the RMT balloted for strike action.
1
You've answered your own question Theresa. You are on minimum wage because your NOT part or protected by any union. Simples.
1
I was in both the RMT and Aslef for 33 years and can convincingly say your comment is complete twaddle.
1
@keithhowes3539 Also if anyone strikes they do not get any payment from the union and they lose s days pay. I should know having lost quite a few days wages over the years.
1
Join a union then get elected as the general secretary.
1
@danielmoran9902 I've edited my original comment to stop upsetting you Daniel. Hope the new one is better.
1
@danielmoran9902 🤟
1
Odd comment considering that anyone who wants any union position has to be voted in by it's branch members. Same goes for any form of strike action which requires a mandate from it's members.
1
What about a bloke who sits behind a desk for 3 hours a day 5 days a week talking nonsense living in a multi million pound house?
1
@deanlowdon8381 Yes definitely and with some of them it's pushing 500k. You've only got to look at some of them that have massive staffing expenses especially the ones that employ their family members. Disgusting.
1
@1chish Maybe that would include his pension contributions and any necessary expenses, either way it seems that it's OK for people like Nick Ferrari to earn shed loads but a high up union official isn't allowed to earn a decent salary?
1
@vvwalker7261 Obviously he does need the flat otherwise he wouldn't be living there. 🙄
1
@goawsy What happens if you are a London underground driver? Think the travel time would finish you off in a few years
1
@engineeringvision9507 7k a year is peanuts for a private school. That wouldn't get you into a second term at Bojos old gaff. Liz truss's parents were a professor and teacher so they weren't hard up by any means. One reason she ended up at Oxford.
1
@engineeringvision9507 TBH I'm not bothered where someone went to school as long as they do the job properly. Liz Truss is Thatcher 2.0 although she wasn't always a tory was she? That should tell you something about the person. She's doing what Bojo did and chop and change their views to further their career goals. A dangerous individual imo but either way both of them are. UK is fooked. I'm off as soon as my last one finishes school.
1
@engineeringvision9507 Way things are going those pits will be opened again as we won't have any gas left soon.
1
Ok Hugh. So you was making it up just like Ferrari then....
1
All union reps from local branch level to the general secretary are voted for by their members. Stop blaiming Brussels. That's why the country is in such a mess.
1
That started with the milk snatcher long ago.
1
Any proof. I don't mind waiting...
1
Yea, and train drivers are on £150,000 with 26 weeks holiday. Shocking.
1
Nothing wrong with living in a council house. The only thing wrong was letting people buy them.
1
Why accept a pay cut?
1
@johnm2012 Johnny probably means the Down section between Stonebridge Pk and Narnia. You go through the ivy clad tunnel and turn left at the volcano via 24 points. I used to do the exact same job on the railway but am now retired on my 120k a year pension with free travel anywhere in the northern hemisphere using my Priv pass. I always thought that train drivers earn far too much so each pay day gave it to my wife who bought shiny things with it. I was more than happy just getting up at 2.30am every day and felt privileged to have a job where you were highly valued by the traveling public. They used to wave kind hand gestures at me everytime I turned up 40 seconds late in the platform. I also never had to use the winsdcreen washing fluid thanks to the kind people providing me with lots of liquid when there was a signal failure. 🤟
1
I'd wager that you will still get some numpty telling you that they are overpaid or compare it to a nurses wage.
1
@Lonsome1223 Do we think we should be building council housing for rich people? No, we wouldn't need to if the tories hadn't sold off 91% of the council stock so people could sit on massive fortunes then grumble about a union rep who pays council rent would we? 🍩
1
89% in favour of strike action. That percentage was a lot more than when people were allowed to ruin the country...
1
@Theoriginalbigbrillo The typical self employed persons retort. Anyone with a final salary pension is evil and has it all lumped in with his pay , whereas most self employed claim for EVERYTHING and pay peanut N.I. contributions to UKs coffers. Most of my builder mates were constantly complaining thru covid as they couldn't claim enough because they don't declare everything! It's amazing how one has 4 big holidays a year on 20k......
1
@gerrywhelan5761 Spot on. No mention of Ferraris 6k a day for 3 hours work though. Limo pick up from his multi million pound home in Blackheath, free food , drink, and anything else he claims for. The proverbial bloke on 2k an hour telling those on £9.50 an hour that the ones at fault are those on £40 an hour!
