Cheaper to have a weekend in Spain than go out in London.

@spartacusforlife1508 Spot on. Not forgetting how many people get weekends/bank holidays off, rostered hours, meal breaks, paternity/maternity leave etc etc. ALL these benefits have been fought for by unions and their members over the years. Peoples mortgages have doubled, utility bills quadrupled and thanks to the B word our groceries from point of source to the shelves have increased by up to 40% so that's why as you quite rightly mention where the footfalls gone. The rich never spend their own money, its the working classes that keep the economy thriving. You still see idiots complaining about rail workers money especially drivers and often comparing it to other jobs like stacking shelves at the supermarket. Looks like the posh toffs divide and conquer works on the myopic. Stay safe on the doors fella. 👍

@quill9105 Will you now be comparing train staff to miners next? Why do you think some rail workers get a decent ( not huge as some people waffle on about ) wage then? Because over the years WE have lost thousands in pay fighting for what's right. Imagine if Nurses, fire fighters, police, etc had decent unions rather than the ones that roll over and have their tummy tickled like they have now? Yes, decent wages...

Of course he did.

@PressureOnJulian He's talking complete bollox. I was a driver/Instructor for 33 years and paid at a higher rate than a driver and never got near 72k. Only one's that did that were a small handful of engineering or test drivers who did shit loads of overtime and all ended up in divorced marriages because they were never at home. Of course having 1300 behind you and the responsibility it entails is piss easy. He could have a seance with all the under 60 year old drivers who pegged it thanks to the shift work and ill health it brought them...

@azapura Paul is an expert. Maybe he has a degree in entitled waffle? Who knows. Probably someone who sits behind a desk all day taking constant latte breaks...

Should a footballer earn the same in 4 days that a train driver takes a year to earn?
2
You've just quoted drivers money at 10k less than what the salary is. I paid 40% tax on a chunk of my money, that and the ridiculous amount of N.I. contributions made it not worth doing any extra work. We got clobbered for everything unlike the self employed who wack everything thru the accountant.
1
No passenger drivers earn 70k. Total bollox.
1
Why do you expect to be compensated by the RMT? What a completely nonsensical comment?
1
Did you buy a driverless car as well? As for trains it won't ever happen in your lifetime so stop waffling mate.

@jjefferyworboys8138 Could you imagine if eveyone was as successful and clever as yourself Jjeffery. Who would empty your bins for you?
1
@jjefferyworboys8138 Not forgetting that the UK would be in a worse place than it is now if the plebs stopped paying tax and full N.I. contributions and joined the ranks of the business owners claiming back for everything and paying as little contributions that the rule bending allows?

@Tailspin80 Don't forget he also has a £3 million London home and gets first class travel anywhere in the world.
1
You can go out at any time. No ones stopping you from travelling. How do you think a train driver on a dead early shift gets to work? Not by a special train that picks them up from their front door then levitates back to the track and glides them to the depot. They use that big metal box with a rubber wheel in each corner that sits outside their home...

Strange comment considering it's the members that decide whether to strike or not. That's why unions hold a little thing called a BALLOT.
1
@pjcamp1on You've obviously never done the job Paul otherwise you wouldn't make such a silly comment. The same goes for a delusional " driverless " rubbish. Won't happen.
1
That's your fault not their's.

@fearlesswolf5928 News to me about the peddle, especially after being in the front cab for 33 years. Any way, enjoy tomorrow's Daily Express and have a great day.

@darrinhawkins8087 You've answered your own question in one part Darrin. Other countries have a competent infrastructure, this is the UK where 20 minutes of rain causes the signals to short out. DLR only holds 260 passengers and has a walkway down the side of it to evacuate passengers in an emergency. Try that in a deep level tube tunnel 90ft underground with 18 inches seperating the side of the train and the tunnel wall plus the extra joy of 750vdc to make your pubes straight. OR on the mainline where there's several miles between stations and trains travelling in both directions at 100mph plus. The clue again is in the title - ( light railway) Regards SJ.

@DaveTheTrain Ah, but with steam trains if they were to stall due to a problem you'd have several grown men with a book and pen suddenly appear to get you out of trouble, but only after they had changed their underpants.

@jjefferyworboys8138 Not forgetting to claim as much back thru your accountants jjeffery and pay as little in taxes and N.I. contributions as most self employed dividend patriots normally do....
