@garyb455 My taxes went on paying for office staff, managers, bankers etc sitting in their gardens for a year on freshly printed money. Prefer to pay for core workers rather than those I've mentioned which has now been proved that half of them aren't needed anymore. The moneys there but as usual it's being diverted to the wrong people.

@deanlowdon8381 Maybe Gary is self employed. You know those people that wack everything thru an accountant to try and pay a little tax as possible with all the loopholes. Peanut N.I. contributions on top too , then moan about not getting any sick pay or private pension...

@johnsidwell2241 The fares are nothing to do with any pay rises. Another gaslit comment.

@GoldfinchDandilion Lot's of companies were paid to keep running by massive furlough payments. Same for Lot's of people that worked in offices. Yes, some of those worked on a computer but let's be honest they didn't do their full hours. My neighbour who's an office / site manager landscaped his garden whilst on furlough and boasted about it to anyone who would listen. My point to the poster was that the core/essential workers all went to work putting their lives and their families at risk, yet he seems to believe they don't deserve a pay increase and has some weird notion that fare increases are caused by those workers wanting a fair pay increase that is above and not below inflation. He mentions tax payers yet doesn't include train workers in that bracket when some of them are paying 40% tax on part of their wages.

@tabularasa7775 You may be totally correct in your point with the management side of the railway but it wouldn't relate to the ones that actually keep the wheels turning and those that get up at silly o clock to get the country to work.
3
@tabularasa7775 You make some very good points. On the railway there's far too many managers and unlike the days of old when you worked up through the grades gaining experience along the way they are now 22 year old uni grads who don't have a scooby in an environment as fragile as the railway hence why it's up the wall most days. All about KPI'S, targets and rushing things thru.

@lindacurrie8817 Better to be far left than far right imo. Must be a horrible situation disliking or hating people with brown skin in the full knowledge that one of them will be taking care of them towards the end of their life...

The people earning 20k a year isn't the fault or anything to do with firefighters is it? Fire fighters are professionally trained people that put their lives at risk every day and night they clock in. Those on minimum wage are probably doing a job that doesn't need any training or has any responsibility. I'm not knocking them but you can't blame one section of society fighting for their rights to be the fault for others crap wages can you.

@rogerb08 If all the money wasted in our services was mounted up then their wouldn't be any need for strike action Roger.

@NumNum And yet as boring as you found my comment you still found the time to return it with complete bollox. Thank you.

@angh18 and do what? Deliver post whilst driving trains?
2
@angh18 You need to be qualified to drive a train, work as a nurse, or firefighter. The only job they could jump straight into is the postal delivery.

@Richard Gallagher Brexit such a success? Is that down to the latest “pork “ deal with South Korea or the wonderful “ control “ of our borders down in Kent - the lorry drivers piss stop of England??

@Smoggy 1964 Ukraine joined the EU the same time as Syria, shortly before the 60 million Muslims from Turkey were turned away at Gatwick and sent back to Rwanda.

More 6 figure newsreaders on RW media going down the usual route of talking about who earns what with half the time ( as was proven) they get it wrong anyway. It still has the desired effect of winding the silly people up though. Look thru the comments and you will find the usual thick suspects that don't realise they have been gaslit.

Stick another 0 on the end David. That will be more realistic.

@InfernalPasquale 12 million plus seemed to enjoy socialism when they sat at home on Furlough. It's when it suits with the Audi on the drive crowd. As long as its their bank account getting topped up by the taxpayer it's OK.

@anfearaerach 👍At least you have weekends to enjoy. Not forgetting being allowed to go to the loo when you want to. Bonus.

@jake751 ONS figures state around 11.6 million Rosemarie. Apologies for rounding up, but let’s face it - the UK is in the state it is for paying people to stay at home. Hope you enjoyed yourself watching loose Women. Don’t watch Sky as I don’t have a TV license.

@John Sidwell The salaries aren't as you say massive. Higher than other jobs yes but not huge. You can't compare one job to something that's completely different John as that's just doing what the government and the media have led you to do. Nurses seems to be the current favourite. The pay increases were always linked to RPI at the time ( February) and then the unions agreed with the TOCs a 3 or 4 year deal. A few years back on the last year the RPI went to 6% and the agreement was 2% over RPI when it was forecast to be 1.5% so we ended up with an 8% pay increase. The media then spent weeks winding everybody up but never mentioned anything about it being the last year of a 4 year deal and that the forcasters got it wrong. Not sure where you worked but i bet you didn't expect to be paid the same money after X amount of years after you first joined the company. I certainly didn't. The core workers are the reason the train companies return huge payouts to their top brass, its only fair that the people that get up in all weathers and all hours be paid accordingly. It’s a highly responsible and hard job despite what certain idiots will lead you to believe. I’m talking about ALL jobs not that of just a driver. If you look at the London Underground then it’s the oldest metro system in the world which receives the least amount of subsidies in Europe from central government hence the sky high fares. Go to Europe and you can travel for cheap, and that’s because their governments actually care about their people unlike our shower of posh idiots.

@johnsidwell2241 The problem is John without knowing you but being a pensioner is that I'd guess you voted blue at the last election as the majority ( not all ) did to get that white elephant known as Brexit thru. Firstly, you can't compare your pension to someones wages as that's unattainable unless you are Liz Truss etc. Secondly, voting for the CONservatives ment you voted to make yourself poorer. That's with the cost of Brexit and also for the lowest pensions in Europe, with the added bonus of the longest working hours and age all assisted by leaving the EU and the working time directive. The cost of the railway is as I've mentioned nothing to do with the workers but a greedy set of shareholders and the government who could quite easily put huge subsidies into the infrastructure but won't. The clues were there - all you had to do was look at your MPs voting record. It's like people who thought Bojo was going to be the great white saviour didn't bother to check his tenure as London's mayor as he was completely crap at that. Of course you may come back and say you voted otherwise but the country were hoodwinked in any case. Damage is done but the unions are now starting to wake up and fight for their rights which is a good thing as before we know it our NHS will be fully private owned by more foreigners John. Regards.

@johnsidwell2241 I should also add that using the Drivers salaries when they've only just joined the strike action is further proof of the media over a decade gaslighting you and the others that don't realise they make up a small part of the workforce John. Trackworkers work in all weathers and at all hours in a place where a moment of switching off could get themselves killed or seriously hurt. A lot of their salaries are under 30k and no where near a drivers money.

@richardgallagher4880 So what?

How about they take the extra from anyone that got paid furlough. After all that's the reason inflations so high isn't it?

@bikeman123 Is that the same mon - fri 9 to 5 weekends and every bank holiday off plus shutdown over Christmas and New year, hour for lunch plus regular fag breaks who would wet their pants if they tried shift working in all weathers private sector?
