  2. And worst of all for that hypothetical diplomat mentioned at the end, you KNOW the State Dept does NOT have your back. Look at Benghazi, look at Afghanistan. You could fine yourself out of nowhere in grave danger and you're on your f-ing OWN. There's no competent authority to rescue you. Afghanistan EMBARASSED me as an American on that front: We told our people in country to get to us to get out, and they had to get to the airport on their own. The Brits sent out SAS special forces teams on rescue runs Rainbow Six-style and swooped in and saved UK citizens trapped, and probably wasted anyone who got in their way there and back. That's what I EXPECTED from our guys there, not to just stand around at the airport WAITING TO GET BLOWN UP.
