Here's a one stone, multi-bird solution to this impasse: Napalm the entire poppy crop in Afghanistan, pull our troops out and stop guarding the opium, bring in Monsanto/Bayer to restart self-sustaining agriculture in their fucked up soil (which we did decades ago btw, watch 'Bitter Lake'), bring all those troops home, end that operation overseas AND end the opioid crisis at home as 90%+ of the global supply dries up. Keeping those troops in country to protect the opium costs more than the requested wall funding every day.
