  2. If you do your deductions and withholding correctly with your employer, your tax liability and refund at the end of the year should be near zero. I get no tax refund because I pay the proper amount through the year, meaning I take more home during the year rather than the IRS holding it as an interest free loan from me and paying me back later. I see coworkers with my same salary, but have a wife and a small child, use credits and deductions to get thousands in 'refund' cash and it bothers me because that might as well negate my tax contribution.
