They don't even need to do ANYTHING, as other safe companies are now ADVERTISING they they CANNOT comply with these requests, and they get them all the time, because they have no backdoor, only their customer knows their access code. This is THE END of Liberty. Compromised software in a SECURITY company is fatal, especially when it's an intentional and apparently widely exploited flaw/feature.

  3. And think about this: Who TF is Liberty Safe Co to validate a search warrant? Did they run that request through legal, if it was me I'd say we've received your request, and per our protocol it's being legally reviewed for everyone's safety, we'll have a response within 2-3 business weeks AFTER we've been able to fully validate said warrant. OH it's a federal warrant, that's DIFFERENT attorneys who handle those, that's a 7 day additional wait. Or you can torch it yourselves. Don't make us do your fed dirty work.

  4. No, it's FAR BETTER than that, it was the one time I respected Apple: THEY CAN'T UNLOCK THAT PHONE. Apple used encryption even they could not break, and did not backdoor it. The couldn't open that phone even if it was the only thing they wanted, SO, they went to a criminal organization in Israel who hacked it in a process that involved physically mutilating the actual phone chipset.

"a hidden back door which you have hidden from customers" People may say oh it's not hidden...I counter with it had to be hidden, because if ANYONE publicly knew about this, NO ONE WOULD HAVE EVER BOUGHT A LIBERTY SAFE. Why would anyone, especially buying a high-end, expensive SECURITY product, buy one known not to be secure? It's the reason some people refuse to use Windows entirely.

  8. And all the locksmith does is, through a vetted protocol, get the drilling plan for the safe door. They can provide a blueprint, to a legitimate licensed approved safecracking locksmith, they drill a very small precise hole to access the lock mech, and use a borescope to dial it open or manipulate the mechanisms. Then after, they can weld that closed, refinish it, and it's good as new. That's the process I'm familiar with from studying locksmithing. It's far harder than just asking for an unlock code.

  11. As a safe owner, I WANT to watch the PD take ALLLLLL the time and effort and destruction to physically open my safe, to see it devoid of contraband. It further bolsters my future lawsuit, especially if it's not specified as being searched on the general warrant and they obtain no warrant for the safe itself.

  12. There's pros and cons, I have a quite nice Browning gun safe with a S&G dial, and last I checked getting the combination changed from factory was about $500 because you need a professional.

Our company protocol is to provide access codes to law enforcement if a warrant grants them access to a property. After receiving the request, we received proof of the valid warrant, and only then did we provide them with an access code. Liberty Safe had no knowledge of any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time. Liberty Safe is devoted to protecting the personal property and 2nd amendment rights of our customers and has repeatedly denied requests for access codes without a warrant in the past. We do not give out combinations without proper legal documentation being provided by authorities. We regularly update our policies to ensure both compliance with federal and state law and reasonable consumer privacy protections within the law. First and foremost, Liberty Safe is committed to preserving our customers’ rights, and we will remain unwavering in those values." If I was Liberty, my standard would be we can only open a safe for LE IF THE WARRANT SPECIFICALLY COVERS SAID SAFE BY SERIAL NUMBER. A general warrant to search everywhere for anything does not cover something like a safe. That requires its own warrant.

  15. Exterior keyboxes for police and fire are mandatory in some cities. Yes, there is a big box outside apartment buildings, secured by a key the Fire/maybe PD have, that has a labled key for every door in the building, including yours. The idea being if there is an emergency, you don't need to wait for a landlord or manager, you open the box and have full access. AND you can get the keys that open the keybox. There are TOOOOOONS of easy, giant vulnerabilities around, like all Police Crown Vics in the US, millions, used ONE STANDARD KEY, so any cop could use any car without needing different keys, and these were available to the public, and lots of cars got stolen. ALL RVs in the US use ONE SAME KEY for all the external storage doors, and you can buy these keys online by the dozen. Unless an RV owner has changed the locks, they ARE this single easy lock. Elevators, same brand uses same keys GLOBALLY for all elevators. You get a control panel key for one elevator, it'll probably work in all models of that brand, and you can get those keys easily. I have all these keys I've mentioned on a ring, cost me like $50.

  17. that was my take, who TF is Liberty Safe to legally determine the validity of any search warrant? Did they delay a business day and run it through a legal dept, did they confirm with the court in question? If I was his attorney I'd have a lot of difficult questions.

Yes, a company provided, hidden secret physical zero day like this, which is a bad analogy because not even the manufacturer knows about zero days, is DEATH to a security/integrity based company. There's no way back from this, this is like when it was announced RSA encryption, the actual key fob based tokens, had been cracked and exploited for YEARS...and the entire fed-gov ran on them for security. END of their TRUST by anyone.

  20. Now that I think about it, in The Terminal List, widely seen as a right-wing tv show, I'm pretty certain all the gun safe's Reece had were prominently advertised as Liberty Safes, with the giant door logo on screen, so that was advertising to 'the base'.

And that code is probably hashed from the SN via algo, so soon we'll have a nice app where all you do is input the serial number and boom, open code. Also why is the serial number or any info even visible and available on the EXTERIOR to be collected? That's a giant security flaw the IT industry has been fighting for decades, I remember having to help with WIFI rollouts and peeling off any default password/model info labels from access points because it was seen as a security vulnerability, like an accessible reset pin hole an attacker could use to drop an AP or router back to factory default. SECURITY companies, which is what Liberty is, SHOULD do better at this security stuff.

  23. probably to get the drill point. Legit, licensed safecracker locksmiths get access to safe blueprints that show EXACTLY where to drill to access the mechanism without permanent damage. They drill it in the perfect spot which bypasses the anti-drill/anti-tamper/relock/roller/tungsten chip/whatever physical barriers, use that access to scope it, and from there it's just open. From there they weld the hole closed, repaint it, good as new. This, as it sounds, is a very skilled, very labor and time intensive, expensive process.
