So, easy solution if you're a government functionary, coerce the carriers to automatically route such web traffic outside the us for maybe one or two hops, magic, now all this traffic is subject to surveillance. I send an email from Missouri to Texas, they route it through a server in the Caribbean or Mexico or even Canada on the way, bang, foreign communication.

Ideally, under our legal system, the NSA would only collect your data AFTER they had an order to/warrant, NOT collect everything and then allegedly only look back at the things authorized to look back at. Think of it like a lawyer being able to record all your banking records just in case their client maybe sued you someday. No, such discovery happens after a suit beings, under a court order. Also, when I heard them call Carlson 'The New Alex Jones' my first thought was 'Now, hold on there, we can't give him THAT much credit, he's not THAT good yet lol.".
