Eh, as someone who worked in academia, I'm actually ok with rendering the 'DR' honorific to PhDs, only because even the most BS doctorate DOES take a lot of effort, time, and discipline to achieve. If I had a doctorate, I'd insist on it. What bothers me is seeing countless mentions of "Mr Rand Paul" in places like the NYT. NO, it actually is DR Rand Pauil, M.D., Senator R-KY. When some rag writes a hit piece about how 'wrong he is' about Covid, and cites several MDs who disagree, then refuse to list his title as an equally qualified medical doctor, that's bullshit. I'd put someone who's survived covid, with decades of medical practice, degrees from top schools, and whom is a sitting Senator with access to information only he and 99 other people know quite high as an authority to opine on the matter.
