  1. I've been saying this to anyone who will listen since I had the thought: The only people who can have power over you are those you WANT something from. So if I want nothing from you, you have no power over me. No leverage, nothing to offer. All you can do is threaten, and that's a no-go for me. In my work, I'm topped out at my organization, I've achieved all my goals there, and I'm maxed out on the pay scale, and there's nowhere to promote me, so when my boss gives me static, I remind him there's nothing here for me to be ambitious about, you have nothing to offer me, all you can do is try to threaten me with my job, and that's always losing strategy for someone who doesn't NEED said job. They're locked in here with me, not the other way around.

I was in college in St Louis and I'll never forget election night the first time Obama won, there was cheering, groups running the halls throwing papers, and in the roads and streets packs of people stopping cars and screaming about wooooo Obama! It's why the south park episode where Randy was rioting for Obama was so funny, it happened in real life and I saw it, and thought it was crazy.

  4. ​ @mephistoxarses8585 in my workplace every Wednesday is bbq day, I go out of pocket and buy my men charcoal, hamburgers, and brats, and we cook, and no buns because we're a carnivore-keto workplace and keep each other on track. I run a water treatment plant.

  5. I ascribe to the Matt Stone-Trey Parker model of free speech: Either everything is allowed to be said, or nothing will be. Because of you are allowed to censor anything, you'll apply that somehow to everything you want it to, and now we're censored to hell. The point of the First Amendment is not to protect what I want to say, it's to protect what YOU want to say FROM ME silencing you. When you see it that way, like sitting in a room where everyone has a gun pointed at each other equally, you can speak without fear. The good old I disagree with everything you said but I cheer and celebrate your ability to say it. I prefer a terrible truth over a nice lie.

  6. They were born on third base and think they got robbed of a homerun. Fun fact: when one man started adding chlorine to drinking water, that one technological advance TRIPLED the world population in just over 100 years. It's the most impactful invention in human history, we eradicated waterborne disease overnight. Most people don't know that, and when the water treatment plants go down, literally hundreds of millions, perhaps billions of people could die horrifically in like a month, because they have no clue about the dangers of drinking water in nature or how to sanitize it. I work in water treatment and I always ask my friends who grew up in the US, how many people have you ever known that got dysentery, typhus, typhoid, giardia, or cryptosporidium? Zero. Because we eradicated those, IF we have infrastructure up and running. They don't even know what those diseases are, their doctor doesn't know what it is, it's so rare. Ignorance kills.
