  1. It's a real, unfortunate example of pure irony: a power plant being destroyed because it loses power. I work at a water treatment plant, and some of our equipment is operated by water pressure, and we've joked it would be ironic that if the system loses water pressure, we can't produce any water, because we need water to make water. And then that happened during a main break and it was no longer funny.

  3. It's hard to believe it's been over 10 years since that happened. I'll never forget watching one of the countless phone videos someone recorded during the tsunami in a coastal town: Everyone had fled to the higher ground evacuation area, watching the water flood in and cover the town, and whoever posted the video translated what you hear one man say in the most defeated, tired tone you can imagine "That's it...it's the end of the world". That haunts me.
