  1. Hell, even not getting married doesn't always work. I have a coworker going through an ordeal right now, got in an argument with his 'old lady', they've been together 15 years and have 4 children, and she decided to call the police, claim 'harassment', get a protective order, quit her job, and took the kids from Missouri to Idaho to stay with her parents. He had to get an attorney to get back into his own vacant house, owned solely in his name, because the protective order listed the house as a prohibited place. Thousands of dollars just to get back into his own house after she fled across the country, insanity. Two of their children are severely autistic, so this level of disruption has to be catastrophic for them. Sad.
