As far as temperature testing for dragging brakes, I discovered mine on the front of my Expedition was binding when I would go to the car wash. I'd wash each wheel well, and when I'd get to the front passenger, water on the rotor or caliper would just roil into steam and boil off, and I'd think, hmm that's odd. After suspecting it for a bit, recently it started binding hard enough that if I reversed it would drag the dire through gravel. Time to replace everything :(

Looks like a great place to use my Topsider vacuum oil changer ;)

Problem is unless you've already seen a 'proven real' one for reference, you have no idea. For example, as he said, Ford would never put 'Motorcraft' on an ignition coil like the badly made fake, yet many people would look at that not knowing better and possibly think "It doesn't say Motorcraft on the part, it has to be fake" and suspect the real OEM part. I work with BMW parts quite a bit, and a feature there is EVERY real factory part they sell has the Roundel BMW logo on it. Every. Single. Time. Even nuts and bolts in many cases.

>Says the Ford engineers know what they're doing and did it right from the factory >Says the engineers got it wrong specifying 5w-20 oil in the 5.4l and says to go rogue and run 5w-30 instead ;)

It's kind of like the M16/AR-15. When introduced it had major design/production issues, to say the least. Today, after over 50 years of revision, refinement, testing, adaptation, and experience, it's one of the most reliable and popular firearms systems in the world.

Is this procedure similar/same for a 2010 Expedition? The symptoms sound VERY familiar.

That's exactly how the oil cap looked on the Expedition 5.4L I ended up buying. Early in the test drive I pulled the cap and saw "Oh no, white gunk, blown head gasket!". Pulled the dipstick and wiped it on a white towel, oil looks fine, nothing wrong with it. Continued the test drive and after another 10 minutes, when it was warmed up, pulled the oil cap again, no white gunk this time. And I've never seen it since in the month I've owned it. It just had the condensation buildup from sitting on that used lot for what turned out to be FIVE MONTHS. Changed the oil and had no visible water or issues. Has been great so far. I'm working through all the '5.4L tips' on this great channel .
