  2. I always liked to bring up, when people called him unqualified, I'd say yeah he only went to Yale...Like Hillary Clinton... It's like people who call Trump uneducated, when he went to Wharton, a school people try to get into and have Harvard/Yale as their backup.

Vance is something like 6 months younger than me, and I have to admit at first I didn't like him based on what the news showed me off him THEN he went on Rogan and I got to listen to him unchopped, unscripted, for three hours straight just TALKING, and he really made me relate to him. I think that's absolutely why the media is freaking out about this election, so many skipped the news and watched the podcasts. We won't watch tv news for 30 seconds, but I'll listen to a podcast for 3 hours, all day long everyday. The media can't middle man things anymore.

  8. Missourian, I remember that, and thinking holy shit the PRESIDENT showed up, not just called in or flew over, he's on the ground handing out supplies he brought, what a badass. I do a lot of local charity/assistance work in my local Elks Lodge, and it's almost always "Something is happening, what are WE going to do about?!" and that's what we do. If you wait for the government, even local government, you'll always be waiting.

  9. Hello my fellow trauma bond-ee. I watched 9/11 live on CNN that morning in American History class. I was a senior, just turned 18 weeks earlier, and signed up for the draft just a week before. I fully expected to get drafted. I had wanted to join before 9/11 but not so much after, I wanted to serve in peacetime like everyone else I knew growing up. Looking back at 41 with what I know now, and remembering how many of my classmates who did volunteer that DIED, not joining was probably the right call FOR ME, not saying what anyone else should have done. I waited a few years to go to college, 2006 was when I started, so I got to see all the anti-bush/pro-obama protests in that era.

  10. I graduated HS in 2002, I watched 9/11 live on CNN in American History class. I'd just turned 18 two weeks before that. I was excited to join the military BEFORE 9/11, after that happened I said F THAT, death is a real thing, you can just get snuffed out at work by a stolen airplane, I'm not volunteering to jump into the meatgrinder. Knowing what I know now at 41 I'm SUPER happy I made that choice. EVERY friend of mine that was in that room with me that day, and I can remember them all and even where we were all sitting, that joined after 9/11 DIED. Every One. I fully expected to be drafted, and I would absolutely do that, but you'd have to draft me.

  13. As someone who works with FEMA in my job, really the ONLY thing they can do in an emergency is RAIN MONEY. Oh you have flooding, keep your receipts of what YOU spend to deal with it, we'll make you whole on the back end, 18 months from now once the forms are approved. Fema is NOT showing up to fill sandbags. FEMA is not giving your flooded neighbor a spare room, or opening a shelter and manning it, nope, local charities do that and get funded by Fema, eventually. Often it's local organizations and individuals who just DO IT, because if you wait for the feds you may be waiting a while. My Mississippi River town flooded in 2019 and we're STILL waiting on Fema and National flood insurance program reimbursements/funding. We're just now spending MONEY FROM COVID, in 2025!

  15. All the fedgov can do in an emergency like that is pay for the stuff you arrange for yourself in the emergency. Stuff that's all provided by private companies and contractors and private groups and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Our government doesn't MAKE anything, never has, all they do is make money available and pay for others to do shit. Look at the space program, there's no factory where NASA builds spacecraft, there's a checkbook they write NASA checks out of for Raytheon and Hughes and Lockheed and countless other PRIVATE contractors to build that stuff. The USAF doesn't make ICBMs, they buy them from BOEING.
