  2. Did some quick research, the very best ISO rating a municipality can achieve is Class 1...do you know the first city EVER in the US to ever have a Class 1 rating? LA-fingFD, that's disgraceful they went from that to THIS.

I run a water treatment plant for a city, and a MAJOR part of our distribution department is continually testing flow and pressure rates and ratings on our hundreds of fire hydrants for fire protection, BECAUSE the property insurance rates for the entire region depend on it, it's called an ISO Rating. We have some businesses that fail this testing due to whatever factors or the minimums of their carrier, and they've had to build their own small water tower for their sprinkler system to get any insurance coverage. We start having pressure/flow test issues for whatever reason, it can spike everyone's insurance rates, it's a BIG deal, and we owe our customers the best we can do. It's insane to me a regulated-to-fing-death place like LA in CA doesn't have a platinum-standard fire protection system, especially in their threat/risk environment. That's like living in Phoenix and not having air conditioning.

  4. 3 million gallons will run ONE well-rated hydrant for 1200 minutes. Open just 10 hydrants and that entire supply is gone in 120 minutes. They have hundreds of hydrants. In my water system, we have one house fire, with 1.5 million in storage, we have to operate maxed out for 24-36 hours straight for them to put that one house fire out, and keep the taps running for our 3000 other customers.

  5. And to think LAFD was the first fire department in the nation to achieve an ISO Class 1 fire protection rating. From best in the US to this. And it's not THEIR fault, as always, as I know as a career public employee, you can only work with what your leadership gives you.

Lol, flood insurance is ran by the federal government, you know what they do with it, they use it as a STICK, you WILL do this, you will NOT do that, you will buy this, oh you didn't meet our demands, No coverage for you, AND we're canceling your entire regions coverage due to you as well, it's happening locally where I live. Well just go somewhere else, YOU CAN'T, once you have government insurance they ban competition FOR CONTROL of you. And if they pull your federal flood insurance, the city BY LAW has to condemn your property and cannot under state law give you a building or occupancy permit...The fedgov just nuked your property, it's uninsurable and uninhabitable. It's why near major waterways is often a ghetto, no one is dumb enough to buy that useless property.

  7. But that's the problem as I see as a hydrologist by trade, you need 1000 gallons, there are 98765456765787667656767 gallons available, plus some more. Fun fact, if we withdrew 50% of the flow of the Mississippi River, that would meet 100% of the ENTIRE Us water demand. You could stop using all other sources and it would handle it. It's solely a distribution problem. Freshwater on Earth only comprises 1% of the total water supply, and for our entire history humanity has only ever had access to 1% of the available freshwater. All our uses right now is 1% of that 1%. Logistics, not supply, like so many things. Here in the midwest we're under 16 inches of snow at this very minute.

  10. That's why today the EPA is issuing a $50 billion dollar air pollution fine to the State of California, but don't worry, we'll deduct that from the FEMA aid earmarked for the disaster, so no out of pocket costs to the state are expected.

  13. The mayor of LA representing LA on official travel in GHANA would be like my small town Missouri mayor being away in an emergency for Trump's Inauguration as a political rep of our small town. I'm often asking why Senator from X state is even saying anything regarding Y state. You're not the Senator of that state, stay in your lane. You don't represent people you were not elected to represent.

  14. Most I know would work 489 hours in this if you let them, then they'd take a 10 minute break and be back at it. I run a water plant, I've worked 20 hours, 4 hour nap, 20 hours, 4 hour nap, 20 hours, 4 hour nap, for several large fires where we had to operate non-stop to provide supply for fires.

  16. Water treatment professional, chief operator of a water system that provides fire protection, and in my opinion nothing you proposed is wrong, great ideas actually. But we can't afford that AND bolstering Ukraine, so Americans get what's left over (shrug)

  17. Problem is, if we built them differently, that $500k house is now a $1500K house. And you can only afford a $50K house...may as well build on Mars for all the access you'll have to fire-resistant housing.
