For some context, remember that meteor that exploded over Russia a few years ago? It was just a giant streak across the entire sky for a few seconds, brighter than the sun. That object was traveling between 40,000-50,000mph according to NASA. That gives a bit of context as far as speed if you go watch that video. THAT is what something going Mach 50+ looks like.

@jondoe2099 1 light second doesn't even get you all the way to the moon. The Earth would still be enormous in your field of view.
