I agree, but the problem comes when we ask "Can fictional, imaginary characters that have not and never will exist in real life be exploited?". That's a whole grey area can of worms. If you imagine killing a person, but never act on it, is that attempted murder because it did happen in your imagination?

The movie was bad, but even worse it was BORING. Also, everyone harps on the sexualizing of the kids, but why is no one outraged that the main character almost MURDERED the fat latina girl by pushing her in the canal to take her spot in the dance group finale? She pushes her in, watcher her sink, and thinks about maybe helping, but then she grabs a buoy so she's like "nah, it'll be fine" and walks off, and that's never mentioned or addressed again, WTF? But yeah, it was creepy, and the most fucked up part is I'd have never heard of or watched it if there wasn't so much hoopla and outrage over it.

The big question is what happened to all the audition tapes from casting? From what I've heard, they had THOUSANDS of little girls try out for these roles...that's a LOT of unused footage that went...somewhere? (shudder).

Everyone should watch, if only to be able to defend your outrage when people standing up for this trash dismiss your criticism by saying you didn't watch it, so you have no standing. If you look away, you're letting it happen, just like Rust says in True Detective: Season 1. Of course, you torrent it like a normal person and fuck netflix.

@jamesphilip8426 The biggest mistake one can make in criticism is not reviewing what they're criticizing. The number one go-to the defenders use is "well, you didn't watch it, or watch it all...". The terrible irony of all this is I'd have never heard of or watched the film (torrented of course) if there hadn't been outrage around it. It would have remained in obscurity. Just like tubgirl, 2 girls 1 cup, and racism, if you keep bringing attention to these things you just prolong their existence.

Because of the outrage. it's a sad truth. I would have never heard of or watched it, but SO MANY people are freaking the fuck out it had to be watched. And yes, it was bad, BUT it was also BORING. All the outrage exaggerated my expectations for how bad it was going to be. I watched the whole thing, was disgusted, was outraged, but also left with the feeling of THIS is what everyone is so upset about? It's bad, but old news. Toddlers & Tiaras and all that child beauty pageant stuff was doing this and worse years ago, and people were outraged then too, rightfully.
