  1. Terms: Subject, someone that is part of an investigation. Target, someone being investigated to see if there is evidence of criminal action. Suspect, someone part of an investigation they now have evidence of a committed a crime. Suspect is the highest level of involvement until conviction. Not all subjects become suspects or targets, but most suspects start out as targets or subjects.
