  1. Pluto is much larger than any asteroid, although there are several moons larger than Pluto. It's no longer considered a planet because its mass is not enough for its gravity to have cleared the region of its orbit of all other objects.

  2. It distorts differently. On a flat earth map everything in the far south is way too big, Antarctica has about a 100,000 mile coastline. Greenland isn't distorted because it's near the center of the map, just like on a Mercator map countries near the equator aren't distorted.
