The idea that the Mongolian and Turkish languages are related is pretty widely discredited these days, so culturally they're really not related. They had similar lifestyles 1,000 years ago because they lived in similar geography and relatively close to each other. After many years of study of military history it is my considered opinion that the people you least want to mess with are emus. They are the only ones who have never lost a war.

A lot of the people they conquered didn't understand it either, or didn't have the same concept of "homeland" that people do today. There was no country of India, for example, for anyone to be loyal to, it was a region, not a country, just like Europe. Eventually that changed. But in 1919 the Turks had a much stronger sense of national unity than the Arabs or Indians did.

Why do you say betrayed by Arabs? Isn't that sort of like saying the Irish who fought for independence were traitors to Britain? Nobody ever asked them how they felt about being conquered and ruled by a foreign people.

Originally, 3,000 years ago and more, the name "Asia" only referred to the western part of Anatolia.

The eastern half of the Roman Empire was never Latinized, they were always culturally Greek, with many local cultures as substrates. Constantinople was always a Greek-speaking city until 1453. The Byzantines called themselves the Roman Empire because of the legal and political continuity from the Roman Empire, not because they were ethnically or culturally Romans.

The Turks retreated pretty steadily from 1689 to 1918. And yes, British and French and Germans were historically rivals just like Turks and Persians, and today Arabs, were historically rivals.

There is so much nonsense in there it would take a year to address them all fully. Just for starters, Russia's Tsar was also a first cousin of Kaiser Wilhelm. Russia was allied to France because they had a common enemy in Germany. Russia was an enemy of Germany because Kaiser Wilhelm ruined the diplomatic system that Bismarck had worked so hard to create, and because when forced to choose sides between Russia and Austria-Hungary due to their conflicting interests in the Balkans the Germans chose Austria-Hungary.

WTF do the Yankees have to do with anything? They haven't even been in the series in this decade!

Yeah, Stalin tended to have that effect on people. I can't imagine why. I mean, what's not to love about Stalin?

Russia and Turkey have been enemies for hundreds of years and a brief and accidental situation in which their immediate interests coincided didn't change that. Also, eventually Stalin took over and Stalin didn't play nice with anyone but puppets under his control.

theodore grapsas, there were great civilizations and millions of people in the Americas before Europeans arrived. The "virgin continent" bit was propaganda and a myth.

Ionia was only Greek for 2,000 years or so before the Turks took it. Most of the people in 1919 were still ethnic Greek Christians, it's Turkish now because all the Greeks were expelled or murdered. Really the same way much of the West Bank is Israeli today, if you think about it.
