Around 15 months ago, a teacher in Batley was victimised because he took an RE class about blasphemy, in which he showed the picture from the Charlie Hebdo magazine. A mob descended on the school. The teacher is still in hiding. He was thrown under a bus, metaphorically, by the school head, and was abandoned by his union, the education authority, the local authority, his MP, the police, and the government. The people who brought this about understand the lesson that authority buckles in the face of threats, and will continue to behave in this manner to achieve increasingly extreme demands.

For someone who has been a failure in every post he has occupied, he seems the least appropriate person to whom anyone would resort.

  35. The campaign is gaining momentum. Give it three years. After appearing on 'I'm a Celebrity....' she will be given a safe Labour seat in the Commons, and a regular column in the 'Grauniad.' She may even be allowed to keep her much prized scimitar. Any criticism of her will be seen as a hate crime, and the police will decend upon the perpetrators in large numbers. I hope that I am only being cynical, but nothing about the modern UK surprises me any more.

If the Royal Family wish to retain the respect of the British people, they must not consider for a moment the idea of 'private discussions' with someone who has no concept of privacy other than his own, and whose public comments are becoming more and more extreme. Go down this line, and they will create the sort of circus they wish to avoid. If they do, hopefully Britain will cease to be a monarchy by 2030.

Ken may think it better to sit on the bus, but he obviously doesn't have any experience of my part of the world, where bus services are erratic at best, and more than half of scheduled services simply do not operate as a result, apparently, of driver shortages. If anyone has an important meeting or appointment to attend, attempting to get there by bus would be wildly optimistic. I live in Lancashire, by the way. I doubt Ken has heard of it.

He explained in an interview on our local radio station about how, after a chat with Rachel, he voted in favour of the fuel allowance cut. Such was the outpouring of anger that he (unwisely) put a damage-control cut and paste from Party HQ on a local chatsite about what a good idea it was, but how he 'hoped' he could help anyone struggling were they to contact him. Result? Further open contempt, with no supporting opinions. Since then he has been silent. Perhaps he is simply spending more time with his £91k p.a. salary, his largely unlimited expenses, and his new-found ability to make a few lucrative 'contacts.'?

Lots of smug self-important people tell each other how important they all really are, whilst the lawyers involved buy more sprawling, detached homes in the nice part of the Home Counties. T'was ever thus.
