  1. My old MD used to tell us at our regular Managers' Meetings that : 'It needs £10 of revenue to generate £1 of profit. It takes £1 of cost reduction to do the same.' Small businesses feeling the pinch will, inevitably, be obliged to react in a similar manner, and the largest individual cost to them is usually their workforce. The probability is that, therefore, they will be obliged to cut staff numbers simply in order to survive. As, I submit, Dear Rachel would probably have known had she any experience whatsoever of working in the private sector, but, alas, I fear she hasn't.
