Instead of criticising the one in three who voted Labour, direct your ire at the 48% who didn't vote at all.

@philfitnesspt6139 The problem is that a large number of previously loyal Conservative voters had become increasingly alienated by a party which had degenerated into a shambles not even vaguely representative of their views or interests. I imagine, around 120 years ago, similar arguments were aimed at those formerly Liberal voters who switched to Labour. 'Don't do it. You'll let the Tories in!'

A further problem is the First Past the Post System. The following figures represent, firstly, what % of the vote each major party gained, what number of seats they actually won, and what number of seats they should have won based on their vote percentage, or Proportional Representation: Labour: 33.7 % 411 219 Tory 23.7% 121 154 LibDem 12.22% 72 79 Reform 14.3% 5 93 Greens 6.4% 4 42 SNP 2.52% 16 9 In previous elections, of course, the same system has greatly benefitted the Conservatives, but the whole structure seems to be based on the assumption of an adversarial arrangement featuring only two serious competitors. Whether this is approprate as politics has rather moved on is open to debate. Needless to say, whichever main party benefits from it at any given time will defend it to the death.
