@BrianWillcox-qp2hr 'are you telling me there are no rich pensioners ?' I am telling you precisely what I wrote. Of course there are wealthy pensioners. But there are a far larger number of pensioners just above the benefit ceiling, who nevertheless are struggling with rising costs, and who will greatly miss the winter fuel allowance. Surely you are not so blindly loyal to the Dear Leader that you cannot grasp that?

@stequality It is because of the First Past The Post electoral system. This worked when there were two major parties (Tory/Liberal, then Tory/Labour) but doesn't work when there are several. As proof, simply divide the number of votes cast by the number of seats won, and you will see what I mean :- Labour. 9,706,716 411 seats 23,622 votes per MP Tory. 6,828.925 121 seats 56,437 votes per MP LibDem. 3,519,143 72 seats 48,877 votes per MP Reform. 4,117,610 5 seats 823,522 votes per MP

@stequality With a Proportional Representation System, the seats in the Commons would have been as follows. The Actual numbers of seats under FPTP are in brackets :- Labour 219 (411) Tory 154 (121) LibDem 79 (72) Reform 93 (5) Greens 42 (4) Needless to say, Labour & Tories are very keen on FPTP, as both have benefitted from it for many years.

I doubt that many Turkeys would campaign for an early Christmas (I am still allowed to write Christmas, by the way, am I?). Do you seriously think the average MP would risking losing £91k per year, effectively unlimited expenses, and the ability to make lucrative 'contacts' simply because a few unimportant nobodies might die from cold? These people hardly go into politics because thay have over-developed senses of morality or ethics, do they?
