  1. It is simpler than that. The Right Reverend John Hughes, Bishop of Kensington until his death in office in August, 1994, told Welby, at the time of his first application for ordination, that "There is no place for you in the Church of England." I expect Welby has been nursing a grudge, and determined that the CofE must be destroyed.
