@fogellmclovin6278 Presumably Sir Keir is, in your opinion, exempt from Harry Truman's maxim that 'The buck stops here?' Or would you simply add, in Starmer's case, 'anywhere except' between 'stops' and 'here?'

@fogellmclovin6278 I am sure you don't. Perhaps you don't grasp the essential principle of management, which is that responsibility lies with the CEO of an organisation. If a lower-ranking manager fouls up, the CEO cannot simply shrug his shoulders and say he knew nothing about it. Starmer was extremely well-paid. It was his duty to know what was going on within the CPS. That was what Harry Truman's mantra meant.

@reinholdmueller4882 'President Truman's mantra isn't legally binding in the UK.' I don't recall ever suggesting that it was. Perhaps Truman simply had higher ethical standards than Sir Keir. It doesn't matter who was or was not 'involved in the Savile case.' Starmer was Head of the CPS at the time. I wonder if you would apply your 'power without responsibility' concept equally across all sections of the political and business establishment?

@reinholdmueller4882 Truman's statement, as I said earlier, doesn't have the status of law anywhere. It is simply an expression of an ethical approach to power. Perhaps you might actually read my posts before commenting upon them. i don't recall ever suggesting that anyone in authority was responsible for the private actions of individuals within an organisation, but was responsible for the culture of that organisation. To follow your argument, Hitler was merely a private individual and should not have been held responsible for the culture of a government which created the holocaust.

@fogellmclovin6278 The question was whether there seems to be one law for Starmer and his people, and another law for others. Feel free, however, to avoid it if it makes you uneasy.

@reinholdmueller4882 Why is it either offensive or stupid? The comparison is apt. You are saying that the head of the CPS was not responsible for the manner in which it behaved, and should not be held responsible for the failures and shortcomings of the CPS. The analogy is valid.
