  1. Perhaps because, in the eyes of these people, only British slavery was 'bad' slavery. Despite claims to the contrary the Portuguese, who preceded the Spanish, British, Dutch & French, and who, like them, obtained their slaves from Arab traders or local African chieftains, transported far more slaves across the Atlantic than any other nation. I haven't come across any similar nonsense being proclaimed in Lisbon.

  2.  Lost in Translation  Agreed. I haven't heard many mutterings from Ankara, or Istanbul, either. It seems to be a phenomenon restricted to Britain & the US.

  5.  @AtifAli-dc6cr  Indeed. But British slavery ended after 1833, and the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron spent much treasure and blood stopping the transatlantic trade. Instead of campaigning about events which ended around 200 years ago, why don't these people seek to do something about the widespread and real slavery which still exists, in such exotic and far away places like Leicester?
